I came for the badass ladies saving the world and stayed for the awesome writing. Willow Wilson does a phenomenal job (IMHO) of getting the characterization right while telling a strong extinction level event story that allows each of the team members to shine as individuals while working in conjunction with their teammates. This is a book more worthy of the Avengers as heroes. ![]() It does some very good characterization with a concentration on the dynamic interaction between the characters that are either well-known or obscure. (If you recall this was one of my major complaints of the earlier A-Force graphic novel.) Here the story is comprehensible. The artwork is gorgeous, and the story is focused on just a few of the heavy hitters. She recognizes the super heroes from the other dimension, but they do not recognize her. She has moved out of an alternate universe where she met members of A-Force (an all-female Avengers team), heralding a new danger. The story revolves around the newest Marvel Super Hero called Singularity. This is a gorgeous volume of sequential art in trade paperback format. ![]() ![]() ![]() L.1.1: Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking.SL.1.2: Ask and answer questions about key details in a text read aloud or information presented orally or through other media. ![]() SL.1.1: Participate in collaborative conversations with diverse partners about grade 1 topics and texts with peers and adults in small and larger groups.W.1.8: With guidance and support from adults, recall information from experiences or gather information from provided sources to answer a question.RL.1.7: Use illustrations and details in a story to describe its characters, setting, or events.RL.1.3: Describe characters, settings, and major events in a story, using key details.RL.1.2: Retell stories, including key details, and demonstrate understanding of their central message or lesson.RL.1.1: Ask and answer questions about key details in a text. These are the CCS Standards addressed in this lesson: ![]() ![]() ![]() What adds to this silence and loneliness, is the absence of singing birds, a natural consequence of the want of groves and hedges.
